Our Process

How We Build Competition Dancers

Our Competition Company follows a structured, intentional process designed to support long-term growth, consistency, and confident performance. Each stage plays a vital role in dancer development.

Audition & Placement

Every Competition Company dancer begins with an audition. This allows us to assess technical ability, readiness, coachability, and maturity to ensure proper placement by level—not just age.

✔ Evaluates technique, strength, and performance quality
✔ Ensures dancers are placed where they can succeed
✔ Creates balanced, supportive teams

Train with Intention

Training is focused, purposeful, and progressive. Dancers receive consistent instruction in technique, strength, flexibility, and performance quality to build strong foundations.

✔ Level-based technique classes
✔ Conditioning and injury-prevention focus
✔ Emphasis on clean execution and consistency

Rehearse & Refine

Choreography is developed with intention and reinforced through repetition. Dancers learn to refine details, take corrections, and perform with confidence as a team.

✔ Structured rehearsals
✔ Attention to detail and musicality
✔ Accountability and teamwork

Perform, Grow & EL3VATE

Competitions and performances are opportunities for growth—not just results. Dancers learn resilience, confidence, professionalism, and pride in their work.

✔ Regional competitions and performances
✔ Performance feedback and reflection
✔ Continuous growth throughout the season

The EL3VATE Standard

Our process ensures dancers are not only prepared to compete—but equipped with the skills, discipline, and mindset needed to grow both on and off the stage.

Our Competition Company

  • At Mad House Dance Company, we believe every dancer deserves access to quality training, performance opportunities, and a supportive team environment — without feeling limited by labels or rankings within the studio.

Many competitive programs separate dancers into “elite,” “advanced,” or “lower” tiers. While that structure works for some studios, it is not the culture we want to build at Mad House.

  • Every dancer develops at a different pace. Some dancers grow technically very quickly, while others shine through performance quality, leadership, work ethic, dedication, or passion for the art. We believe dancers should be encouraged for where they are while still being challenged to improve.

Rather than placing dancers into rigid “levels” that can create comparison or discouragement, we focus on individualized growth and proper placement within routines, classes, and training opportunities.

  • At Mad House, opportunities are not determined solely by “who is the best dancer in the room.” We value:
    • Attendance and reliability
    • Positive attitudes and teamwork
    • Work ethic and coachability
    • Family availability and scheduling
    • Financial comfort level for each family
    • A dancer’s willingness to grow and learn

Our goal is to build well-rounded dancers and healthy teams — not just technically strong performers.

  • Dance should challenge dancers, but it should also build confidence, friendships, discipline, and lifelong memories. Tier systems can sometimes unintentionally create division, unhealthy comparison, or the feeling that certain dancers are “more important” than others.

We are committed to creating a culture where:
    • Every dancer feels seen and valued
    • Teams support one another
    • Growth is celebrated at every level
    • Hard work matters
    • Dancers are given realistic and healthy opportunities

  • Some dancers may want an extremely competitive schedule with multiple routines and intensive training. Others may prefer a more balanced schedule due to school, sports, family commitments, finances, or personal goals. Both paths are valid.

At Mad House Dance Company, we work with families to create the best experience possible for each dancer while still maintaining strong, competitive teams.

We believe dancers thrive best in an environment where they are encouraged, challenged, supported, and inspired — not ranked against one another.
